NewsClick founder and Editor-in-Chief, Prabir Purkayastha, got arrested by the Delhi Police on Tuesday. It is reported that he got arrested in connection with a case filed under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He was initially brought to the Delhi Police Special Cell office for questioning.
This Tuesday, Delhi Police raided the homes of many other journalists and employees who are linked to online portal NewsClick.The entire incident took place in connection with a case filed under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the country’s anti-terror law.
To be precise, a list of the names were made who were to be raided, and they were divided into three (A, B, C) categories. category A people were detained. In the raid, police seized electronic evidence, that includes laptops and mobile phones, hard disks. The searches were based on inputs shared by ED.
